Glenn Decherd

medium: ceramics

Artist Statement:

I come to ceramics with an appreciation of its history, forms, and uses. The ceramic arts are old, one of the first attempts by humans to change their environment. This means two things to me. First, I am connected to others’ choices ranging from functional to decorative that can, and do, inform my work. Second, since ceramics are made from earth, water, and fire, in working in clay I am connected to those ancient elements in creating new and beautiful things.

Artist Bio:

I have been “playing with mud” for a long time. I work out of the ceramic studio at Multnomah Arts Center. There is a community there that encourages those new to pottery and nourishes and sustains those familiar with the medium. All of my work is hand thrown, durable, high fire stoneware. I use no toxic glazes, and each piece is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.
