Eileen Millsap

medium: Glass, judaica

Artist Statement:

Art in many forms has surrounded me my entire life. My mother was a painter and print maker. Our home was filled with art from many artists; painters, sculptors, printmakers, and potters. Paints, inks, presses, tools were the playroom toys my siblings and I grew up with.

As an adult I made my living in Medical Imaging- X-Ray, Nuclear Medicine, PET, and MRI images were what I worked with every day, enhancing images to better diagnose what was occurring in the body. The shapes and colors of the human body awed and inspired me.

For the last 15 years I have worked in fused glass. Again colors, textures, and shapes have inspired me. I work with large glass sheets of many colors and textures. I design my pieces, cut, and fuse them in one of several glass kilns I have in my studio. For the last stage I slump my pieces into their final shape in glass molds. My work is largely functional consisting of bowls, plates, and other useful shapes. With the smaller pieces of glass I design and make jewelry.
